Tarant (Part 1): Quests in Arcanum

Arcanum Walkthrough -> Tarant (972W 1027S)

Tarant is the largest industrial city in Arcanum. Since the city is too big, I will write the addresses of buildings and the nearest metro stop. As soon as you arrive in Tarant, you will find yourself near a bridge and behind you will be "Boyle". It is better not to go there yet - they will kill you. First, cross the bridge

Find the Elven Artifact

Near the "Western Garillon Bridge" station, there is a woman - Casandra Petibon. You ask her about any work, but she does not want to talk on the street, and invites you to her home. Her address is Lanchesten Road 6.

She wants to find an ancient elven artifact and will mark the location of the ancient elven catacombs on the world map. All you have to do is reach the catacombs, kill all the evil spirits and bring her the artifact. The reward is from 200 to 450 coins.

Meet the Boys

Near Kasandra's house, there's a man who can lead you to the leader of the Tarant gang, giving you the address: 19 Kilton Bend. The leader's name is Thaddeus Minor.

Find the Absent-Minded's Ring

Near the "Devonshire Way/Kensington Broadway" sign, Matthew Jameson is standing – the poor guy will ask you to find a ring he dropped while washing himself.

Climb into the nearby hatch, turn left, kill all the rats, and take the ring. Reward: 200 coins.

Find the Stolen Painting

Enter the Harrisburg house at 37 Devonshire Way. It turns out that Madame Harrisburg has had an expensive painting stolen, and she's asking you to find it.

There are several ways to find the painting: go to the Wellington Club and ask the guard at the door for the guest list for the evening Mr. Harrisburg was there, and the painting is missing the next morning. Rory Limes will be listed as a guest.

Rory Limes owns a warehouse at 57 Muligan Alley. That's where the painting is located. There's a second way: an elf is standing in the corner of the Wellington Club. He'll ask you to deliver a note to Low Dervish Law 36.

The note contains the address of the same warehouse at 57 Muligan Alley. But if you read the note, the people you delivered it to will attack you. I advise you to immediately go to the warehouse, kill the ogre, and take the painting:

Tell about the crash of the Zephyr

There is an editorial office of "The Tarantian" in Tarant. It is located at 44 Polton Cross. The editor-in-chief will ask you to tell him about what happened to the Zephyr - and will eventually give you 500 coins for the story.

I do not advise telling him this, as the next day the newspaper will be published, and all of Moloch's men will try to kill you. The editor's second task is to deliver the bills to Mrs. Halster - for this you will receive another 200 coins.

Disappoint the false fortune teller

Next to the editorial office at 42 Polton Cross, there is a fortune teller. She will tell you that another fortune teller stole her crystal ball and will ask you to kill the thief and seize her property:

Go to 77 Devonshire Way to see the fortune teller Madame Tussod. Madame Tussod will tell you why you came to her and offer to switch sides.

If so, she will give you a crystal ball, which will explode when you give it to the first fortune teller, killing her. In this case, you will receive a blessing from Madame Tussod (+1 charisma).

If you remain on the side of the first fortune teller, you will have to kill Madame Tussod, which will result in a curse (-2 charisma).

Stock up on books

Tarant has its own library at University Yard 15, but membership costs 1,500 coins. I still advise spending the money, as the books are interesting.

Find the skulls of conjoined twins

Next to the library is a university at University Yard 24. Inside, the halfling phrenologist Benjamin Gersivin asks you to find the skulls of conjoined twins. The skulls are in a warehouse at 17 Quilton Bend.

There's also a technology bookseller at the university—I recommend buying some, but each one costs 750 coins.

Order a tombstone

Near the train station, there's a security guard named Jared. Talk to him about the Zephyr crash. He'll be terribly upset, as his fiancée was on the Zephyr. He'll ask you to go to the undertaker at 12 East End Avenue to make a tombstone.

Clear the warehouse of rats

Near the docks, next to his warehouse, there's a halfling who asks you to rid his warehouse of mice, as he's planning to sell it.

There's no payment, but if you're a technologist, you can take all the techno-components.
